President's Report

GBTA-WI President - Emily Wright, Fox World Travel

Warm greetings ~

Wow, it has been a wonderful experience jumping back into the President role with our GBTA-WI Chapter! The leadership team continues to exceed my expectations with how they are supporting and leading this organization.  Wooo Hooo!

We had a fantastic meeting at the Iron Horse in November with a very interesting topic on the ME3 Carriers, presented by Jeff Davidman, with Delta Airlines; a topic that I certainly learned more on.   Many of the attendees were surprised as they had no idea of the issues presented.  It was eye opening for sure.  As always, there are two sides to the story; I look forward to hearing from the Middle Eastern carriers so we can have a complete picture of what is happening with the state of our airline industry.  A big thank you to Peggy Jensen, Matt Hoffmann, both with Fox World Travel and Tracy Rutowski with WISCO Hotel Group for making this happen!

At the November meeting, we also celebrated our 2017 Volunteers and presented the President’s Awards for the Direct and Allied Members. Thank you so much to Lauren Sollazo, our Volunteer Committee Chair with Enterprise Holdings for making this happen!

The well-deserved recipients of the President’s Awards were:

President’s Award - Direct Member: Amy Sipsmawith Spectrum Brands

President’s Award – Allied Member: Jennifer Terpstrawith Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport

Robert Zimmermann, our past President selected both Amy and Jennifer and provided a very heartfelt message for both.  It was an honor to present these awards on behalf of Robert, and to read the messages.  Congratulations Amy and Jennifer!!

Future Events:

I am beyond excited for our next event in January which will be combining the Silent Auction with the Annual Conference; held at the Pfister in Milwaukee!  The opening reception will now be the Silent Auction with lots of exciting items to bid on!  A huge shout out to Nicole Slemin, with the Graduate Hotel for jumping into the Silent Auction Committee Chair position and creating a strong team to make the Silent Auction a success.  If you haven’t donated an item yet, please reach out to Nicole or her team.  This is very important to the success of our chapter and the opportunity to raise funds in which we give back to our members, the communities, and to grow the organization.

The Annual Conference is being planned by our one and only Jesse Funk with Fox World Travel, who has been our past President and VP of Education.  He has been lining up phenomenal speakers for an interactive day of education and networking.  This is an event that you can’t miss and will surely deliver an ROI for you and your organization!

Our GBTA-WI leadership team is meeting on December 13th for our annual strategic planning.  During the day, we will look back over the year and see what went well and where we have opportunities for growth.  We will brainstorm and discuss ways to make this chapter even better and stronger as we move into 2018.  We will be sure to update you, our members with the new initiatives when we have them all set to go.

I invite all of you to take some time this month to review your 2017 – both professionally and personally. Often, we get so busy we forget to celebrate all the successes and opportunities that we had through the year.  Take some time, perhaps pull out your calendar to help jog your memory….and write down all of the fun and successful events.  Times where you felt proud of what you accomplished – these can be big and small, as they all count!  Then start thinking about what you want to work towards in 2018 – both professionally and personally because the two are most certainly related.  Have fun with it and celebrate you!

Looking forward to seeing you in January at the Silent Auction & Annual Conference Meeting! Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can assist you in any way.

Make it a Great Day!

Emily Wright

Membership News

Membership Coffee Talk

By Jennifer Terpstra, VP of Membership

It’s been a great year for the members, packed full of education, networking and fun!  We kicked off with the Travel Conference, had a great Silent Auction at the Safe House, 3 wonderful meetings and a fun summer outing in Milwaukee.  And I was able to meet Patrick Warburton at GBTA in Boston (also known as Elaine’s boyfriend Puddy from Seinfeld)!

Next year has just as much in store for our members, and I hope you plan to renew your membership to GBTA Wisconsin.  If you plan to sign up as a Community member, which is a membership to GBTA Wisconsin only, we are keeping the membership at $175 for 2018.  We will also offer the Pre-Paid options, which saves you $95 if you plan to attend all of the meetings, at the same price of $330.

If you are interested in an All-Access GBTA membership, this gets you membership to both the local Wisconsin chapter, as well as benefits to the National GBTA organization such as discounted registration to the annual conference taking place in San Diego in August 2018.  You also can attend any GBTA chapter meeting at the discounted member rates, and you get full access to the GBTA membership database.

I have included information in the different levels of membership.  My wonderful Membership Committee Chair, Liz Barker, and I will be in contact with you to discuss your plans for your membership in the next couple of weeks, but if you have questions in the meantime, please call me at 1-414-563-4070 or email me at

Direct Member News

The holiday season is upon us! Let's hope the weather goes easy on holiday travelers.

Our Direct Member meeting was held as the November Chapter meeting with 13 members in attendance. A diverse set of opinions were shared about the topic of the meeting and how this affects the companies we work for. We are still in the process of testing the Direct Member forum, but we’re looking forward to another way to connect with questions in the industry.

Hope everyone has a Happy Holiday and we’ll see you in January at the Travel Conference in Milwaukee!
